Welcome to my November Newsletter!
Hoping today is a great day for everyone. I have three quotes for consideration today. “I have not always chosen the safest path. I've made my mistakes, plenty of them. I sometimes jump too soon and fail to appreciate the consequences. But I've learned something important along the way: I've learned to heed the call of my heart. I've learned that the safest path is not always the best path and I've learned that the voice of fear is not always to be trusted.”
― Steve Goodier “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”
― Albert Einstein “Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”
― Nelson Mandela
I have the great fortune as part of my practice and out of my training, to coach others as I continue to be coached. It has been a common theme when I ask:
"Where they want to be in 15 years."
I often receive in reply:
"I want to be well off; I want to be happy; I want to be happily married....."
But what does this mean? It is not defined or set down in a measurable way. You cannot get to a destination unless you know where you are; the resources you may avail; exactly where you want to go and the individual steps you need to take to get there. It is not a path set in stone but a path that can be altered to fit the circumstances that occur daily. That path will enable you to arrive at your goal.
Have you defined your goal in a measurable way and set the individual steps to get there?
At the age of 50 years I decided to become a lawyer and return to university after having been excluded from university on 4 occasions, due to my inability to pass my courses. Quite frankly people thought I was an idiot but I was determined, and passionate in my goal. I set out the steps required on a daily basis and worked daily on what was required. I am now in my own practice which I am building surely and steadily. If I had heeded what others said....
Choose, do, and live with passion.
