PREPARING A WILL

Good morning everyone

“Whatever can happen at any time can happen today.”
― Seneca, On the Shortness of Life

Covid 19 has emphasised the frailty of life, the importance of relationships and the need to provide for family should the worst occur. As a result in the last couple of months I have had twice as many requests for wills as I have had in the previous 12 months combined.

I consider a will to be one of the most important documents that you will ever sign as this gives you the comfort of knowing the rewards of your life’s work will be managed and distributed according to your wishes (your estate).

Without a will your estate will be distributed according to the Succession Act. Among other provisions provides that where a person had married, separated and lived in a de facto relationship, the assets are to be divided between the wife and de facto, as agreed or as determined by the Court. Such situations often lead to legal action that could have been easily avoided along with the destruction of family relationships. In addition, if there are no eligible beneficiaries as set out in the Act, then the State is entitled to the whole of your estate.

A will is all about preservation of your Estate and to enable you to pass it on to the people you consider nearest and dearest. When drafting a will, I always ensure that I know the family history and your wishes to minimise family disruption. I cannot emphasise the importance of having a will.

In this time of challenge any business of any size needs to be on top of their financials. I have been working with Mai Ha over the years who continues to provide me with personalised financial services and has always gone that one step further in assisting me. She has kept me up to date with the government assistance initiatives and applied for the Jobkeeper payments on my behalf without my needing to ask. I recommend her if you need of accounting assistance that you contact her on 0416 087 588 or email mai@thefinancialcontrollers.com.au.

The reality is that people need help so pick up the phone and ring me if you have any questions or I can assist in ensuring your assets will be distributed according to your wishes.

Have a wonderful day,

Jeffrey
